Party: Sunday SUPlement – Back Down

OK, last time we did this route the forecasts were all over the place and we ended up with a super-choppy upwinder! But today we can say with some confidence we're due a side-offshore cross-tailwind from Chalkwell to Thorpe Bay, which should help us the whole way and make for reasonably flat water. It being Sunday, we have the luxury of time on our side, so to sort vehicles out in advance we're going to meet way early from 1ish at Chalkwell Beach (www.wetndrysup.com/sup-locations/chalkwell-beach/ – nearest postcode, SS0 8JJ), ready to work out logistics and ferry vehicles to the end point at the slipway just beyond Uncle Tom's Cabin (SS3 9HG) from 1.30pm. Then we're planning to hit the water at 2.30pm, just after high tide, for a wind-assisted 7km... No hire kit – and as ever with these downwinders, we can't guarantee perfect conditions so we need to know that everyone can paddle themselves out of trouble if needs be. Today should be no problem at all for any of our regulars though – the air temps might have dropped a little but the sun should be back out!
