Sarah Pellicano is a singer-songwriter with the ability to have you dancing like Beyonce on a table-top one minute and crying on a rooftop whilst eating an entire wheel of cheese the next. And you won’t even be mad, because that’s amazing. Pellicano brings her sultry, powerful, Florence Welch-inspired vocals and lyrics that are so emotionally honest, even Dallas Green would be affected by them, to a range of musical genres from acoustic, hip-hop, electronica and drum and bass. With influences ranging from Etta James to Goyte, Pellicano has been compared to both Missy Higgins and James Blake in relation to her vocal talents. That jacket is tight, son.
Collaborating with a range of artists such as Creed Birch & Rob Shaker, Rregula & Dementia, Bitter Belief and Gran Calavera as a vocalist and lyricist, as well as performing as a solo artist both acoustically and electronically and as part of bands Lo & Behold and City of Dogs, Pellicano is fly-kicking musical stereotypes into the far reaches of outer space with every new track she lays down.
Pellicano is also a fan of randomly Sarahnading strangers and replacing as many words as she can with her own name. All puns are intended with this pelican. A spectacle in her trademark spectacles, she’s the bottle of red-wine with the polar bear bleeding on the label: you know you’re in for a good night when she steps up on stage. Haven’t heard of her yet? Sarahously? Stop pining over your last musical relationship and fall in love with Pellicano instead.
Plump DJs describe her vocals as ‘sublime’. FG claims ‘man, she can belt it out’ and he’s right, she will belt it out while you un-belt your pants. Babies have been conceived along to her music, probably. Trying to slow Pellicano down is harder than trying to get Sneakers O’Toole to take his sneakers off. Pellicano’s latest work is the release of her electronic single, ‘Did You Think’, on the 20th of June with an EP release expected late 2013. We all got a little time for that.
