Vanderbuyst
At The Crack Of Dawn, the moment the darkness meets the light. When the night is finishing its last affairs and a new day gets a chance. Indeed, the proverbial new beginning. Is there a reborn Vanderbuyst to be heard on their newest record? Yes and no. You can still expect your sympathetic Dutch hard rocking trio. The sound and the production however, are taken to another level. More heavy? Yes, but the Vanderbuyst tunes are still catchy as hell. Maybe even more so than before. After playing 400 shows in 21 countries, recording 3 full lengths, an EP and a 7” it was time for a fresh wind. When singer/bassist Jochem Jonkman, drummer Barry van Esbroek and guitarist Willem Verbuyst started in 2008, they would have laughed with disbelief if someone would have said: upcoming years you will fly to Beijing to play a few shows. You will release vinyl in more colors than there are in the average box of crayons. You will rock in front of thousands of metal heads on the main stages of the biggest festivals in Europe like Hellfest (FR), Graspop (BE), Bang Your Head (DE), Metaldays (SVN) and Bospop (NL), and kick ass on Tons of Rock (NO) and Bloodstock Open Air (UK). You will share the stage with your heroes like Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, Blue Öyster Cult and many more. You are going to support major acts like Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy and Steel Panther. You will tour for one month with Saxon. In fact, you will tour so many times the night-liner will feel like your second home. You will appear live on DeWereld Draait Door – one of the most popular TV shows in Holland – to address 1.5 million people. Your songs will be played frequently on the Dutch national radio 3FM. Flying Dutchmen will go straight to #1 in the Dutch Alternative Albumcharts and will be the 3rd highest entry in the regular Album Top 100, and so on. Wicked, but it all happened. You could ask yourself: what more is there to gain when you achieved all this? Unperturbed, Vanderbuyst did as they always do: they raised the bar once more and got to work. After releasing Vanderbuyst (2010), In Dutch (2011) and Flying Dutchmen (2012) time had come to try something different. They started looking for a producer who was willing to make that step with them. When they teamed up with Martin Furia it was an obvious choice to go for a heavier sound. Martin and the guys were determined to capture the energy the band has on stage. For the first time they worked with a producer who was not afraid of using all the tools available to create that overwhelming sound, yet careful not overproducing the band. Meanwhile, the songwriting matured and is more to the point than ever. Also the straightforward riffing (cf. Vanderbuyst, 2010) instead of double tracking of multiple lead guitars (cf. Flying Dutchmen, 2012) returned and has contributed to the big sound of the songs. That this album is the most personal one so far is to be heard in the lyrics, often describing the life on the road. The finishing touch to the sturdy mix of At The Crack Of Dawn (2014) was put by the world famous Sterling Sound mastering
company. At The Crack Of Dawn (2014), released by Ván Records, will bring you a fresh Vanderbuyst. Of course you will recognize the band by its catchy hard rock. But by cranking up the production, Vanderbuyst blew some of the old school dust off the speakers to give the songs the sound they deserve. What is more, these songs were written with an audience in mind: on the album they already contain the live-energy; live on stage they just want you! Join Vanderbuyst tonight and leave satiated at the crack of dawn.
